Yesterday marked the beginning of a new era in Japan. Emperor Akihito abidcated the throne at the end of April, paving the way for his son Naruhito to ascend to the throne. This ushered in the end of the Heisei era and the beginning of the Reiwa era. There will be a week of celebrations of all sorts, but when I saw that they had announced a special colour palette for the event, I knew I had to do a coordination to celebrate. The three celebratory colours<\/a> are ume<\/em> (plum), sumire<\/em> (violet), and sakura<\/em> (pink).\u00a0 They\u00a0 were\u00a0 chosen\u00a0 because\u00a0 they\u00a0 are\u00a0 all\u00a0 traditional\u00a0 spring\u00a0 flowers,\u00a0 and\u00a0 also because\u00a0 they\u00a0 are\u00a0 mentioned\u00a0 in\u00a0 the\u00a0 Manyoshu<\/a>,\u00a0 Japan’s\u00a0 oldest\u00a0 recorded\u00a0 poetry\u00a0 that\u00a0 served\u00a0 as\u00a0 inspiration\u00a0 for\u00a0 the\u00a0 new era’s\u00a0 name.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I knew right away that my beloved peony furisode would be absolutely perfect for this outfit, since it features all three colours already. A white-based obi with delicate pink accents gave the outfit a bit of visual rest, since the kimono itself is quite busy and bold. I chose more pink and purple accessories to reinforce the theme and went with a classically feminine but modern styling.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
