For that style of bunko you don't *need* an obi-makura but it does help to give the bow lift and volume. If you don't have one, for the time being you can definitely use a sponge or a pair of socks.

The Obi Musubi resource thread on IG has a great number of links to all sorts of styles of musubi.

hi, thanks for the advice. that seller has a lot of good obi for great prices. i think im going to get one. if i tie my obi in the same way you did, do i need to get obi makura? do you know of any good sites that show how to put on kimono with different obi styles?

Juban for ko-furisode can be very difficult to find. It will probably be easier to find a normal furisode juban and shorten the sleeves a bit, rather than use a vintage one like I did.

As for an obi, I'd check out eBay. I've written a post about the way I like to shop there, maybe it will help you?

Black and red sounds very pretty! It would look really nice with a black obi with gold, I think. Ko-furisode are still relatively formal, so you don't want something too casual. Maybe one of those black fukuro with red and gold embroidery that were really popular in late Showa? Like this one, which you can buy right now for only $20:
